A tribute to my parents

Today I thank Rain for the theme Gates and Fences. I finally know what to do with my parents artwork.
My mother loved to paint in oil and my father loved woodwork. Especially in Juniper wood.
Today I combined the Autumn forest and the Juniper pieces of wood.
I wrote their names on the base of the gate.
So far the wood is only placed upon the canvas. Now I have to figure out how to attach them permanently.

I have been fooling around with Geli printing a bit this week. As I don´t have a geli plate I used a transparent, plastic cutting board.

I photographed each stages on the work. First shot is the background painted on the board. Then let it dry. Next I painted a flower on top of it. And the blue stripes.
Image 4 shows the result of having plastic folie on top of the wet color. And ripping it off.
For image 5 I had to spray water on the board as the basic layer were dry. And they need to be wet.
I put a sheet of watercolor paper on top of the wet color. Pressed it down to capture the wet color. And lifted it slowly.

If you wonder why the final image is turned the other way it is because when you paint on the geli board, you paint the negative and turn it to positive in the last stage.

Had some fun with coffee filter too. Might be the same flower as above!
😉

Take care everyone. It is chilly today, spring is slow, and I have a heater blowing some warmth.

  1. Nice memory of your parents, this work of art. Combined uniquely with the beautiful wood and the background of the painted painting it harmonizes into a single unit.
A beautiful work of art created by Rains theme.
The gel works are fun and playful, great your imagination!
It's not that warm for me the next few days either, hug Elke

  5. We have our parents in common ... My mother was a painter and my father loved woodworking. I have pieces by both, but they don't really fit together as yours have ... it turned out lovely and your parents would love it. Geli painting, how much fun is that. And the pictures turned out nice. I laughed at you painting on your coffee filter ... gave me an idea of what to do with my coffee filters as I have stopped drinking coffee because my BP has been high (ugh!) Fun post, Monica and nice that you made the first on Rain's highlighted artist. Pretty Cool :)
